In order to satisfy the region’s crucial needs for female institutions, the school was established with the help of an international non-governmental organization called RAINS/CAMFED, in collaboration with the Ghana Education Service and the Regional Co-ordinating Council (RCC).

Twelve teachers and 62 female students attended the school when it first opened. The study programs are in business, home economics, general science, and the arts. Due to the school’s expansion, there are currently 1,328 pupils enrolled, 73 instructors, and 59 non-teaching staff members.
In 1999, Mr. Issah Issahaku served as the first acting Head of School at the institution. (INSECT). He was supported by an interim management board.

In 2000, Miss Mercy Amanquandoh was named the first official headmistress of the institution.[5] After retiring in January 2010, Hajia Mariatu Mohammed, the second headmistress, transferred control of the institution. The third Headmistress of the school, Hajia Amina M. Musah, assumed leadership of the institution when she retired in May 2014.
